My background
I studied Education with English at the University of Cambridge with the aim of becoming a primary teacher, but after graduation I chose to take up the offer of a summer's work with educational publisher Nelson Thornes to put together digital interactive iPad textbooks.
This really ignited my love of both technology and publishing, and so when they asked me to stay on after the summer, I gladly agreed. My career since has seen me learn CSS, HTML and how to publish content across different devices, as well as navigate the rapidly changing publishing world. I started writing articles on the state of publishing as part of a content marketing strategy, and was approached by industry analysis site TheMediaBriefing to be their assistant editor. This was where we launched what is now known as the Media Voices Podcast.
Working in smaller businesses has helped me develop a wide range of skills, from marketing and social media to public speaking and project management. I then had the chance to hone some of these areas further by working at Dennis Publishing for three years. It may look like I do a lot of disparate things, but everything is connected and helps develop my skills in across all areas!
